Who is responsible?
Kaft is made by nealvdv: Neal Van de Velde, company and VAT number BE 0671.938.794. He is responsible for processing your data in Kaft. A question about your data? Write to contact@nealvdv.be.
What we collect
If you use Kaft for free, you give us nothing: no account, no newsletter, no analytics. You do not need to sign up anywhere to use the apps and their free topics.
Who helps us?
Kaft runs on Vercel, Inc. Like any web server, Vercel sees your IP address and what your browser says about itself, such as the browser type, and keeps technical logs for a short time to keep the service safe and working. We don't use that data to follow you. The fonts come from our own server, not from Google.
What stays on your device
Your choice of light or dark and your reading comfort settings are kept in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device. For now, the apps also keep your progress only on your device.
Kaft Plus and your account
If you make an account, we keep your email address, your language and, if you give it, your first name. Signing in works with a code by email; we only keep a hashed form of the code and of your session cookie. If you pay, we keep your name, your address, your company and VAT number if any, your plan, your payments and the numbered invoices we issue for them. The payment itself happens at Mollie: we never see card or bank details. We only email you what belongs to your subscription: your sign-in code, your invoice after each payment and a reminder two weeks before a yearly subscription renews. If you add family members, we keep their email addresses and send them one invitation to sign in. A school asking for a quote leaves its contact details. A Kaft app only gets a signed key saying which apps are open and until when, never your email address. You can always delete your account yourself in My Kaft. Invoices and what accounting and VAT law obliges us to keep, we keep as long as that law asks, also after your account is deleted.
Children and young people
A Kaft account and a subscription are taken out by a parent, a guardian or a school. If you are under 13, Belgian law does not let you consent to such a service yourself: let a parent make the account. If a parent adds you to a family subscription, you get one email with a link to sign in, nothing more. From pupils we never ask more than an email address.
Outside Europe
Vercel is an American company, so your data can end up in the United States. Vercel offers the safeguards European privacy law asks for: the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. For Kaft Plus the same goes for Resend, which sends the sign-in e-mails, and Neon, Kaft's database.
Your rights
You can always ask what data we have about you, and have it corrected or erased. You can also ask us to stop using it for a while, object to what we do with it, or get it in a file you can use elsewhere. If you gave consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Write to contact@nealvdv.be. We answer within a month.
A complaint
Not happy with how we handle your data? Do let us know. You can also always lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (DPA), Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, www.dataprotectionauthority.be.
